Development objectives The basic qualitative objectives of the Congolese Government during the 1990s are:

  • Achieve food self-sufficiency
  • Improve the quality of food
  • Increase the well-being of rural populations
  • Improve farmers' incomes, in particular by creating jobs, mobilizing a greater proportion of available time and increasing labor productivity
  • Regularly supply foodstuffs to urban consumers at reasonable prices
  • Provide the domestic industry with raw materials - finance economic growth and improve the balance of payments by (i) exports of agricultural products or agro-industry, (2) reduction of imports to household consumption or imports of raw materials for the domestic industry.
