It puts its scientific and institutional expertise at the service of the public policies of these countries and international debates on the major issues of agriculture. He supports the scientific diplomacy of France.
Development through research
CIRAD has a priority objective: to build a sustainable agriculture, adapted to climate change, able to feed 10 billion people in 2050, while preserving the environment.
He believes that in order to develop in the long term and develop appropriate public policies, a society must participate in the production of the knowledge it needs. This development through research is based on the capacity of countries to have a system of higher education and adapted research, supported by the public authorities, but with a real autonomy of action.
From local to global, through its sustainable partnerships, it contributes to the development of an agriculture that serves all, and especially small farmers, who constitute the vast majority of producers.
It responds to the global challenges of food security and climate change, but also to the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the Paris Agreement on Climate Change.
Training and knowledge sharing
Training, the dissemination of information, the sharing of knowledge and innovations naturally complement CIRAD's research mission by giving partners and development actors the ability to make the choices that come their way.

Its long-term partnership is structured by research and teaching partnership (dP) mechanisms bringing together 200 institutions from the South, to which 200 of its researchers are assigned (50% in Africa, 25% in Asia and 25% in Africa). South America).
In France, it offers the national and international scientific community an important research and training system, mainly located in Montpellier and overseas France.
