Called at its beginnings University of Bas-Zaire (UNIBAZ), Kongo University was created on July 22, 1990 by Sons and Daughters Kongo. 
It obtained its final approval by Decree No. 06/0106 of June 12, 2006 with notification No. 471 / MINESU / CAB.MIN / LM / AB / 2006 of June 28, 2006. It currently operates on two sites, in Mbanza-Ngungu and in Kisantu, Central Kongo Province, DR Congo.
