The IRAF was created as a result of the nationalization of Gabonese scientific research. It is one of five institutes grouped within the National Center for Scientific and Technological Research (CENAREST). The Agronomic and Forestry Research Institute is a public institution under the threefold supervision of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Rural Development and the Ministry of Agriculture.
