Founded in 1995 , the TOliara Peque Fiscal Cooperative Company first collected and processed seafood products for export to Mauritius.

In February 1999, COPEFRITO joins forces with ALIZE and its factory ship, approved by the European Union, to export products to Europe. COPEFRITO ensures the collection of seafood products around Tulear that ALIZE company processes and exports.

In November 2002, the seafood processing plantCOPEFRITO is inaugurated near the port of Tulear. It is approved for export to the European Union in February 2003. From then on, the processing of the factory ship and collection activities are combined within COPEFRITO.

Since its creation, COPEFRITO has been the main actor in the collection and processing of cephalopods in Madagascar. To develop in export and to better meet the demand, COPEFRITOincreases its tonnages, develops new packaging and diversifies its products.

Between 2000 and 2004, tonnage of processed cephalopod (eviscerated and packaged) increased by more than 50% , from 330 tonnes to 510 tonnes (octopus and squid).

Initially limited to these products, the collection of COPEFRITO has now expanded and with it the range of products: COPEFRITO exports since 2003 lobsters, crabs and fish (tuna, grouper, etc.).
